Elliot has over 20 years’ experience working in various UK business sectors, both as a journalist and PR Director. He has extensive experience working within the insurance profession and financial services sector, offering clients strategic advice for both internal and external communications programmes.
In his career, Elliot has worked with major corporate clients, and managed in-house communications teams, to produce UK and international media campaigns; copywriting of press and advertising content; and developing and co-ordinating major conferences. He has held senior PR roles where he has had numerous responsibilities for budget management and implementing projects at board level.
After graduating from City University’s journalism faculty in 1992, he began a career in business journalism writing for national and professional publications such as The Daily Mirror, Construction News and International Construction. In 1995, he joined the communications department of Lloyd’s of London, working with the PR and content management teams during the Reconstruction and Renewal (R&R) programme. After the successful implementation of the R&R plan, he decided to return to business journalism to report on the M&A activity within the global drinks sector, writing for Drinks International. In 1999, he launched just-drinks.com, the first 24hr dedicated news service for the global beverage market and was nominated in 2000 as Online Editor of the Year by the BSME. Elliot became a regular commentator on the drinks sector, often being quoted as an analyst in national newspapers and TV news channels including the BBC, Channel 4 News and CNN.
In 2001, Elliot joined the leading insurance trade title Insurance Times as news editor, managing award-winning teams and creating an environment where the magazine’s news desk became a training ground for young talent to move onto the national press. He became editor of the magazine in 2005 and won the BIBA Trade News Journalist Award the same year. Elliot has also written for numerous newspapers and magazines during his career including The Times, Sunday Business, Reading Evening News, Charity Times and AOL Money.
In 2007, he began his career in public relations joining the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) as head of media relations where he oversaw the Group’s external and internal communications and was also the Director of the CII’s Talent Initiative. After two years with the Group, he was approached by insurance and risk adviser Heath Lambert to become PR Director, reporting to the Company’s board. While at Heath Lambert, Elliot was instrumental in raising the company’s profile across national, regional, vertical and trade press. Heath Lambert also won five major awards during his time at the broker, including Commercial Broker of the Year twice.
Elliot joined FWD in 2012 and offers strategic advice, media relations and copywriting skills to the company’s top corporate clients.
